Melanie McAllister is a visual artist based in Greensboro, North Carolina. She is currently a second year MFA candidate at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she also received her BFA in Painting in 2025.
From 2017 to present, she has participated in several group exhibitions in Greensboro, Montclair, NJ, and across the San Francisco, Bay Area. She was a featured artist in Creative Greensboro's Downtown Arts Program and an artist in residence at Greensboro Project Space in 2025.
McAllister's practice is characterized by figurative oil paintings and charcoal drawings, in which she often re-appropriates religious iconography and horror cinema through a Black Feminist lens. She frequently situates herself within these narratives in order to confront the complexities of navigating womanhood and motherhood. She also utilizes portraiture to examine the lived experiences of others to which she relates, confronting the beauty and brutality of human existence.
